Something Permanent

I cherish the times we are together.
I treasure all the laughs and frowns.
You and I were inseparable;
Going through life’s ups and downs.

It was a feeling I never could say.
(It was a bond that put lovers to shame!)
It was more than words could ever hope convey.
And I could never let God have the blame.

It’s funny – how life makes you see,
The pettiness of coincidence, the nakedness of words.
There are truths and deeper meanings
That the closed heart can’t open with a key.

If there was one thing I learned,
It was that people come and go and to it there is no end.
And that wishing for something real is just a wish,
Even for something permanent.

I cherish the times we were together.
I treasure all the laughs and frowns.
You and I were inseparable;
Going, and going, through life’s ups and downs.
